Many IATSE local unions have contacted the International in regard to possible work opportunities in their jurisdicition for members displaced by the effects of Hurricane Katrina. Members are advised to contact the local unions prior to going to that jurisidiction in order to determine the level of work that may be available.

Housing and work are available for stagehands in N.E. Wisconsin, which includes Green Bay, Oshkosh and Appleton. There are also volunteers with vechicles for transportation for work in this jurisdiction.

Employment Information for IATSE Members in the Gulf States

Workers in the Gulf States region who are currently unemployed because of the hurricane can file for disaster unemployment assistance or unemployment benefits by way of the following State agencies:

a) Louisiana: Louisiana workers could be eligible for benefits of up to $256.00 per week. You can call (866) 783-5567 or access the website www.laworks.net

b) Mississippi: Mississippi workers could be eligible for benefits of up to $210.00 per week. You can call (888) 844-3577 or access the website www.mdes.ms.gov

c) Alabama: Alabama workers could be eligible for benefits of up to $220.00 per week. The phone number is (866) 234-5382 This program is also open to evacuees from both Mississippi and Louisiana that have relocated to Alabama because of the storm.

Hurricane survivors can call the number, enter their last known home phone number and then record a message. People looking for survivors can call the toll-free number, enter the person's last known phone number and hear the message.
